Mama's Mobile Laundry Service
FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will my laundry ever be washed with anyone else’s?

Absolutely not!  Your clothes will never be washed with anyone else’s. Ever.

Do I need to sort my clothes?

No.  Mama sorts all clothes: darks, lights, whites, delicates, jeans and linens.  All you have to do is gather all of your dirty clothes, towels and sheets and put them in a container.  A laundry basket, laundry bag, or even a trash bag is acceptable.  The container in which you send your clothes to Mama is the container in which she will return them to you.

Do I need to check my pockets?

Mama asks that you check your pockets for gum, money, lipstick, etc.  Pockets are always checked prior to washing, but it is easy for things to be missed.

How are my clothes returned to me?

Clothes are professionally folded and sorted in piles according to type.  They are carefully placed in plastic bags and sealed.  Mama wants to ensure laundry stays folded while in transit.  All clothes are folded unless otherwise specified.

Can Mama hang up my clothes?

Sure!  Specify on the form which clothes you’d like hung and Mama will be happy to do so in lieu of folding.  If you provide your own hangers, hanging is free.  If you need Mama to provide hangers, she charges you her cost which is $0.07 per hanger.

What if I have delicates or items that have special instructions?

If you have special care items, place them in a plastic grocery bag (or similar) inside your basket or bag of laundry.  Indicate on the online form what items need special attention and what care you would like for them to receive (ie: hang dry, low heat dry, wash in delicate cycle, etc). If you are unable to utilize the online form, you may put a note in your bag with your special care instructions.

Does Mama provide an ironing service?

Yes!  Mama provides hand ironing.  Specify on the form which items you’d like ironed and Mama will professionally take care of all ironing needs.  See Pricing Info for further details on ironing.

Is there a minimum charge?

The minimum charge is 13 pounds of laundry.  You are welcome to send a smaller load of laundry, however you will be charged at the 13 pound price.

How is my laundry weighed?

Your laundry is weighed using a professional grade, legal-for-trade scale.  It is accurate to +/- 0.01 pounds.  Your clothes are not weighed until they are washed and dried.  Wet clothes weigh more than dry clothes (think wet towels versus dry towels) and Mama believes it is fairer to her customer to use a dry weight.

An example:

If your laundry’s dry weight is 32.14 pounds, 32.14 is multiplied by $1.10 (base rate per pound) to determine your amount due.

Does Mama offer a dye-free/fragrance-free detergent?

Yes!  Mama also offers Charlie’s Soap.  Please indicate on the online form if you would like your laundry washed in Charlie’s.  There is no extra charge.

How do I know how much my laundry weighs?

There are a few ways to estimate how many pounds of laundry you have:

1)       The following table will help you determine a typical load of clothes:

15 pounds

20 pounds

3 pairs of jeans

4 pairs of jeans

1 pair of shorts

2 pairs of shorts

2 button-down shirts

2 button-down shirts

5 t-shirts

6 t-shirts

2 sweaters

3 sweaters

9 pairs of underwear

9 pairs of underwear

7 pairs of socks

8 pairs of socks

1 towel

2 towels

1 set of full sheets

1 set of full sheets

2)       The typical top-loading washing machine holds around 15-16 pounds of laundry.  Sort your clothes into loads and then multiply by 15.  This gives you a very rough estimate of how many pounds you have.
